Welcome to the HPI Press Centre.

 

HPI has been checking cars for over 70 years and our experience is unrivalled. We work closely with finance companies and car dealers to protect them and the car buying public from vehicle fraud.

Our experience, and the numbers of cars we check, mean that we have built up expertise in spotting scams and ways to prevent the public from falling foul to them.

 

Scam warning

The scam causing us most concern at the moment is a sophisticated international scam conning online buyers out of millions of pounds.
It starts with an advert in a motor magazine or website. An English seller has a top-of-the-range car for sale at a knock-down price.
The seller is usually in Spain or Portugal and needs to offload the car quickly. You won’t be able to see the car as it’s already with a shipping company.

The real catch is there is no car and your cash will be long gone by the time you realise that you’ve been had.  Our advice – if it is too good to be true then it probably is. Never buy a car or part with your money until you have physically seen the goods.
